Chest Pain — When Should You See a Cardiologist?
Not all chest pain is a heart attack — but some of it is, and knowing the difference can save a life. This page helps you understand the warning signs and when to seek care.
Seek emergency help immediately (or come to the 24×7 Anand emergency) if you have: chest pain or heaviness lasting more than a few minutes; pain spreading to the arm, jaw, neck or back; chest pain with sweating, nausea or severe breathlessness; or a sudden collapse. These may signal a heart attack — do not wait.
See a cardiologist soon (book an OPD) if you have: chest tightness or breathlessness that comes on with exertion and eases with rest, palpitations, unexplained fatigue, fainting spells, or if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a family history of heart disease.
Often not cardiac, but still worth checking: sharp pain that lasts only a second, pain that worsens with a specific movement or touch, or pain clearly linked to acidity — though only an evaluation can be sure.
